Here’s a genuine piece of Canadian new wave history that deserves more recognition than it typically gets. Doug and the Slugs carved out their own distinctive corner of the early 80s rock scene, and “Wrap It!” stands as their creative peak. This Vancouver-based outfit, led by the charismatic Doug Bennett, managed to blend pub rock energy with new wave sensibilities in a way that was uniquely their own. The album spawned several Canadian radio hits, including “Too Bad” and the title track, showcasing Bennett’s knack for crafting memorable hooks wrapped in his band’s loose, almost ramshackle charm.
