Sly & The Family Stone Backtracks (CD)

Sly & The Family Stone were one of the first major acts to put a racially integrated, mixed-gender band at the center of mainstream American pop, and that radical openness ran straight through the music itself. The grooves on tracks like “Everyday People” and “Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)” laid the groundwork for everything from Parliament-Funkadelic to Prince to hip-hop’s earliest producers, who sampled the Family Stone relentlessly.

Sly Stone, is an American musician, songwriter, and record producer who is most famous for his role as frontman for Sly and the Family Stone, playing a critical role in the development of funk with his pioneering fusion of soul, rock, psychedelia and gospel in the 1960s and 1970s. A musical visionary of the highest order, Sly Stone carved his way into the American cultural fabric. Buttermilk is a collection of Sly Stone’s greatest works.
